You and I might have asked the same question.
The cab driver, the street vendors on Oxford St, the pedicab man, and the homeless guy too, might have asked the same question, you and I asked to yourself and myself.
"Why are we here?"
The question which the Lord has answered clearly long before our existence,
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.[51:56]
And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to angels,"Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority,"They said,"Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds
blood,while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?"Allah said, "Indeed, I know which you do not know."[2:30]
